Now for a "kid" update . . .
Cody and Morgan started school last week. It was kind of hard to see them go . . . it's so nice to have them home during the summer. I know Tim misses them even more in that way as they help at the ranch almost every day during the summer.
But it was also neat to see their excitement--yes, EXCITEMENT!--at going back to school. Cody is a junior, and I know he's looking ahead to finishing high school and (GULP!) going off to college. He very much dreaded going back to school in the school they used to attend, and I'm so thankful he's excited about seeing his friends and learning not only in the classroom, but about "real life" too.
Morgan is a freshman(woman) :-) and she, too, was excited to go back. She picked out her clothes and accessories with all the care I remember from when I went back to school. In the school district the kids transfered to last year, Morgan was in a grade school. She had a very hard time adjusting to the new school and the fall was a tough time for her and for her mom and dad! This year, she knows many of the kids in the high school and is looking forward to her classes, so I'm optimistic it will be a much, much better experience.
It's sobering to realize that our children will only be living at home for a few more years (although I certainly wouldn't want them living here till they were 35!). Tim and I have been their main influence for what, when they were born, seemed like many, many years . . . but now that they're almost grown up, seems to have just flown by. I pray that they learned the "right" lessons from us . . . and that they will carry those values and lessons into their "grown up" life. We have been so very blessed with our children adn I pray that the next few years, while they're still at home (sometimes, anyway) we can continue to teach them positive life lessons.

Newspaper Editor!
Several weeks ago, I mentioned that I'd made the agreement to purchase the Nebraska Family Times newspaper. We (the current owner) and I decided that the purchase date will now be Sept. 12th.
I'm soooo excited . . . and a little nervous . . . about this new venture! One of my goals is to provide families with information they can use. I need to come up with a brief tagline that describes the newspaper . . . something with the words "conservative" and "family" and "Christian" in it. That's just one thing on a long list, that I need to do. I will be starting a Nebraska Family Times blog, that will chronicle this new venture, and provide information that may be outdated by the time the next issue of the newspaper comes out (the newspaper is published monthly).
Yesterday I gave a talk in David City. The talk was about determining priorities and setting goals. At one point I mentioned that I had a new priority--learning how to run a newspaper, the Nebraska Family Times. I saw one lady react to that with surprise. After the talk, she told me that she'd been getting the paper for several years, enjoyed it . . . and that her husband, who is a chiropractor, might want to advertise in the paper! She might also write for the paper.
Right now I just need a day or two (at least!) to get stuff organized--contacts, to-do's, ideas, and so on . . . and on . . . and on. . . I'll probably never have those uninterrupted days, but somehow, it will all get done. I know it will be a steep learning curve at first, but it will be interesting, and fun, and hopefully something that will really benefit the families it reaches.

Time Flies!
WOW--the last month + has just flown by! I didn't realize how behind I was in blogging until a friend e-mailed and pointed out how long it had been since I'd posted . . . and I could hear her toe tapping disapprovingly in the background. That was about four days ago . . . (sorry Suze!)
It seems like I've been working on several projects, forever! One is writing the curriculum for the midweek classes at our church. Midweek takes place on Wed. evenings, for grades 3-6. Grades 7 and 8 are in Confirmation classes, and the pastors take care of those classes. I'm on the Board of Education at our church, and was talking to the pastor about the midweek classes. We talked about curriculum, and he mentioned how what they'd used last year was very expensive and the teachers didn't really like it. Somehow . . . I volunteered to write a new curriculum for this year! I enjoy projects like this, and was excited about setting it up how *I* wanted to.
I decided to take lessons and stories directly from the Bible; I never really liked the focus in what seems to be most Sunday School and midweek classes, on one aspect of a Bible Story--you know, Jonah was swallowed by a whale (but why was he running from God? I think THAT is the real lesson!). Or the focus on crafts or games. Fun, yes . . . but what does glueing a cotton ball beard on Moses really teach us about what he did? (and how many moms dread their child bringing home yet another "craft" project -- very little of which was creative or actually done by their child)?
I certainly don't mean to criticize the companies that put out curricula . . . and I'm forever greatful to the teachers who have that ability as teaching kids is definitely NOT a gift of mine. I just hope that what I've written will teach kids to go to the Bible for the answers they need in life situations.
ANYWAY . . . I just can't seem to finish the last few classes. I have the ideas, they're written out, and I just need to get them typed up and to the pastor for his approval (he liked the classes I've already turned in, so I think he'll approve these too). I guess like the ad, I have to "JUST DO IT!"
