Several weeks ago, I mentioned that I'd made the agreement to purchase the Nebraska Family Times newspaper. We (the current owner) and I decided that the purchase date will now be Sept. 12th.
I'm soooo excited . . . and a little nervous . . . about this new venture! One of my goals is to provide families with information they can use. I need to come up with a brief tagline that describes the newspaper . . . something with the words "conservative" and "family" and "Christian" in it. That's just one thing on a long list, that I need to do. I will be starting a Nebraska Family Times blog, that will chronicle this new venture, and provide information that may be outdated by the time the next issue of the newspaper comes out (the newspaper is published monthly).
Yesterday I gave a talk in David City. The talk was about determining priorities and setting goals. At one point I mentioned that I had a new priority--learning how to run a newspaper, the Nebraska Family Times. I saw one lady react to that with surprise. After the talk, she told me that she'd been getting the paper for several years, enjoyed it . . . and that her husband, who is a chiropractor, might want to advertise in the paper! She might also write for the paper.
Right now I just need a day or two (at least!) to get stuff organized--contacts, to-do's, ideas, and so on . . . and on . . . and on. . . I'll probably never have those uninterrupted days, but somehow, it will all get done. I know it will be a steep learning curve at first, but it will be interesting, and fun, and hopefully something that will really benefit the families it reaches.
